The secret to perfectly crispy homemade nachos? Your oven’s broiler! This crowd-pleasing recipe is foolproof — and it’s easy to customize with your favorite toppings.

How to Make Nachos

You’ll find a detailed ingredient list and step-by-step instructions in the recipe below, but let’s go over the basics:

What Goes On Nachos?

These nachos are topped with seasoned ground beef, shredded Cheddar cheese, canned refried beans, chopped tomatoes, canned black olives, salsa, sour cream, green onions, and sliced jalapeño peppers.

Other delicious options include shredded chicken, barbacoa , guacamole , cotija cheese, corn, pico de gallo , shredded lettuce, diced onions, pickled red onions, and/or black beans.

How to Make Nachos In the Oven

Here’s a brief overview of what you can expect when you make homemade nachos:

  1. Cook and season the ground beef on the stove.
  2. Spread the tortilla chips on a baking sheet.
  3. Top the chips with cheese, beans, and beef.
  4. Broil until the cheese is melted.
  5. Top with olives, salsa, sour cream, green onions, and jalapeños.

How to Store Leftover Nachos

Nachos don’t make the best leftovers, as the tortilla chips will get soggy quickly. If you do have leftover assembled nachos, though, you can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.

Make-Ahead Tip

If you want to cut down on prep time, you can prepare the beef a day or two in advance and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

How to Reheat Nachos

Reheat nachos in the oven (not the microwave) for the best results. Spread them in a single layer on a prepared baking sheet, then bake at 350 degrees F until the nachos are thoroughly hot. Adding a sprinkle of shredded cheese before reheating can help the nachos taste fresher.
