Cuban Pork Cubano Sandwiches from the Chef movie. This is the actual recipe created by rockstar chef Roy Choi for the movie.

That is the “leftovers” recipe from the Juicy Cuban Mojo Pork Roast I posted final week from the film “Chef”. I raved in regards to the film in that publish so I received’t repeat myself!

The actual star of the film are the Cubanos that are cuban pork sandwiches. I’ve had my share of nice sandwiches, significantly throughout my foodie street journeys throughout the US. However Cubanos….they’ve all the time held a particular place in my coronary heart, ever since that first chunk I unsuspectingly took in a random Cuban diner in Miami. It wasn’t even within the Latin neighbourhood, it was on South Seashore!

I didn’t actually even know that cubanos have been a “factor”. I simply ordered a cuban sandwich, knew it was higher than any sandwich I’d ever had in Australia (even absolutely loaded ones from up market bistros!) and that it even rivalled Shake Shack (which is saying one thing….as a result of I’m obsessed with American burgers!).

To be sincere although, after I returned to Australia, I forgot in regards to the Cubanos, misplaced amongst the recollections of all the opposite superb meals we had on our travels all through the US.

Till I watched the Chef film. Boy, it introduced again a flood of recollections!

Cubanos are made with leftovers from this straightforward selfmade Mojo Marinated Pork.

I didn’t really assume to make Cubanos myself till I noticed this Cuban Sandwich recipe by the stunning and gifted Kathleen from Hapa Nom Nom (certainly one of my favorite blogs, limitless supply of inspiration!). And lately, I occurred to obtain a supply of pork from Murray Valley Pork, a premium vary of Australian pork. It was simply “meant to be”!

I posted the Mojo Marinated Pork recipe individually, as a result of it’s SO GOOD it deserves to be served by itself as a centrepiece roast (and also you solely want a little bit of leftovers for this recipe). Please, please, please….in the event you make these Cubanos, please use the Mojo Marinated Pork. Particularly if you’re in Australia as a result of I can inform you that even pork slices from the costliest deli you realize won’t come near the garlicky, herby, citrusy flavours infused all through selfmade Mojo Marinated Pork.

Now, in the event you’ll excuse me, I would like lunch. And to fake I’m again in Miami. 🙂

Ingredients

  • 2 thin slices baked leg ham
  • 4 large , thin slices Mojo Marinated Pork
  • 2 pieces of white baguettes , 6 inch/15 cm in length, cut in half
  • Melted butter , for brushing
  • American mustard
  • 2 thin slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 or 3 dill pickles , thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Heat skillet over medium heat. Add ham and pork slices, and cook each side until slightly browned then remove to a plate.
  2. Butter cut sides of baguettes then place in the skillet, cut side down, for 2 minutes until lightly browned. Remove onto work surface.
  3. Layer the bottom of the baguettes with pork, ham, then cheese and pickles. Cut, break or fold the ham, pork and cheese so they fit. Spread the cut side of the bun tops with mustard then place on the sandwich.
  4. Butter the bottom AND top of the outside of the baguettes.
  5. Heat skillet over medium high heat. Place the baguettes in the skillet, top with a sheet of baking paper then weigh it down with a heavy skillet or pot (use cans if necessary for extra weight so the sandwich compressed). Cook for 3 minutes on each side, until dark golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted.
  6. Let sandwiches stand 1 minute before cutting in half. Serve IMMEDIATELY.

Notes

1. If you don't have homemade Mojo Marinated Pork but need this in your life, you can use pork slices from the deli.
2. Because I made so many of these, I discovered quite by accident that they freeze really well! It's because the sandwich is compressed. Let them cool, then wrap them in baking paper (parchment paper), then foil and freeze them. Reheat them from frozen or defrosted in the oven - you don't even need to unwrap them!
3. Nutrition per serving.
