Original recipe (1X) yields 8 servings

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, at room temperature

  • 1 pound lean ground beef

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning mix

  • 1 ½ cups salsa

  • 1 ½ cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

  2. Spread cream cheese in an even layer in the bottom of an 8×8-inch baking dish.

  3. Cook and stir ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until crumbly, browned, and cooked through, 5 to 10 minutes. Add water and taco seasoning mix; stir. Simmer until most of the liquid evaporates, 3 to 5 minutes.

  4. Spread meat mixture over cream cheese in the baking dish. Pour salsa over the top and sprinkle with Cheddar cheese.

  5. Bake in the preheated oven until bubbling and cheese is melted, about 20 minutes.
